About the Board of Regents

LOUIS is directed by the Associate Commissioner for LOUIS and is governed by the Louisiana Board of Regents, under the oversight of the Statewide Programs Committee. The Associate Commissioner for LOUIS reports to the Commissioner of Higher Education.

The Board of Regents, a state agency created by the 1974 Louisiana Constitution, coordinates all public higher education in Louisiana. This includes the Louisiana State University System, the University of Louisiana System, the Southern University System, and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. The Board of Regents believes that a robust public postsecondary education system is critical in order to enhance Louisiana's social and economic environment. Through statewide academic planning and review, budgeting and performance funding, research, and accountability, Regents strive to ensure that all students have access to high-quality educational opportunities.
