The Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) is committed to increasing access to affordable education and training. To this end, the LCTCS designed the 2017-18 e-Learning Innovation Fund RFP to inspire colleges to leverage open education resources (OER) or related eBook technologies to reduce student expense.
In 2017, LCTCS accepted proposals ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to fund OER projects serving credit, non-credit, and adult basic education students. This initiative required participants to redesign courses or programs by replacing required proprietary course material with open educational resources or eBook technology while maintaining quality and integrity. Each project was expected to measure the financial and academic impact on the affected students.
All material created or modified with these funds are to be openly licensed or reside in the public domain.
The e-Learning Innovation Funds are only available to LCTCS member colleges. Other entities may participate via partnerships in applications for funding, but can only do so through an eligible college.
The Louisiana Community & Technical College System is one of nine institutions to be selected as a 2018-2019 OpenStax Institutional Partner.
These [nine] institutions, chosen from among 31 applicants, will begin working with OpenStax associate director of institutional relations, Nicole Finkbeiner, on June 14, 2018 to develop institution-specific, strategic plans to encourage the use of OER on their campuses. These colleges and universities will join 37 other institutions, representing 200 colleges and universities and over 2.6 million students, in taking part in the effort to expand the use of OER at their institutions. The institutions who participated in the 2016-17 program increased OER on their campuses, on average, by 150% in one year.
